The Newfound Area strongly supported Republican President Donald Trump in Tuesday’s election, but the state as a whole chose Democrat Joseph Biden Jr. to succeed him.

Of the ballots received so far in Central New Hampshire, we show Trump with 5,507 votes; Biden with 4,828; and Libertarian Jo Jorgensen with 206.

Just outside the Newfound Area, it was Biden who was ahead, 632-562 in Ashland and 958-737 in Thornton.

Governor’s Race: Local results for governor gave consistent wins to Chris Sununu over Dan Feltes, 7,162-3,088, with Darryl Perry receiving 169 local votes. Sununu has been declared the statewide winner, as well.

US Senate: Incumbent US Senator Jeanne Shaheen won locally, 5,242-4,933, over Corky Messner, with Justin O’Donnell picking up 265 votes, although the results varied widely by town. Shaheen took Ashland, Bristol, Hebron, New Hampton, and Thornton, while Messner was the pick in Alexandria, Bridgewater, Danbury, Hill, and Groton. Shaheen was the statewide winner.

US House: While Ann McLane Kuster held onto her US House seat in statewide voting, she did not do well locally, winning only in Ashland and Thornton. Our towns gave the District 2 race to Steven Negron, 4,447-4,039, with Andrew Olding receiving 243 votes.

Executive Council: Republican Joseph Kenney won the race against Democrat Michael Cryans with 52 percent of the vote, but locally, Kenney was the clear choice, receiving 5,949 votes to 3,978 for Cryans.

State Senator: Incumbent Senator Bob Giuda easily defeated a challenge from Democrat Bill Bolton, 5,189-3,272, on local ballots, with 56 percent of the overall vote in his district.

Grafton Dist. 9: Republicans Lex Berezhny and Ned Gordon won the two state representatives’ seats in Grafton County District 9, with 24 and 36 percent of the vote, respectively. Locally, they polled 2,001 and 3,100 votes, respectively. Democrats in the race were Carolyn Fleuhr-Lobban, with 1,560 local votes, and Catherine Mulholland, with 322 locally.

Grafton Dist. 17: Democrat Joshua Adjutant, the incumbent, held off a challenge by Republican Kendall Hughes, thanks to votes he picked up in Enfield and Grafton. In Adjutant’s home communities, however, Hughes drew 2,695 votes to the incumbent’s 2,072 votes.
